Apple Pie Spice
My easy apple pie spice recipe without cardamom uses pantry staples and is perfect for fall baking, oatmeal, coffee, and of course, pie.

Apple Pie Spice Recipe Without Cardamom
I keep a jar of this homemade apple pie spice in the pantry, especially when fall rolls around. It’s just one of those staples I always reach for when baking apple cinnamon bread or tossing together a quick apple crisp.
There are tons of store-bought versions of apple pie seasoning, like McCormick, Great Value, and they all have their blends. The same goes for homemade spice mixes.
Some recipes throw in cardamom or cloves. Others stick to more basic ingredients like cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and allspice.
Mine doesn’t have cardamom and uses a fair amount of cinnamon as the main flavor. Basically, it’s a handful of spices that you probably have on hand.
Use it in Dutch apple pie, mix into muffin batter, sprinkle it on oatmeal, or stir a little into your morning coffee. It’s easy, versatile, and seriously good in lots of fall dishes.

What’s in apple pie spice?
Our version has four pantry staples: ground cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and ginger. The ginger optional, but I like the little bit of kick it adds.
Don’t be afraid to tweak the ratios. If you love cinnamon, add a little more. Think of this as a base recipe and adjust as needed.
Tips for the Best Flavor
- Use fresh spices. The older they are, the flatter the spice blend will taste.
- Skip the ginger if you’re not a fan. It’s great for brightness but can make the blend a little spicy.

Common questions
Storage
Store leftover apple pie spice in a jar or airtight container in a cool, dark cabinet. It’ll last about 6 months if your spices are fresh when you mix it up.
If the spices were already opened, just keep an eye on it. The scent fades as it gets older.
