How to Make the Perfect Cinnamon Oatmeal:

This recipe has a couple of steps, so I will separate everything out so it’s easy to follow along. How about we get started.

First, start by heating the milk in a medium saucepan. Let it heat until it just begins to boil but not a full boil.

Add the oats, and pull the pan off the heat. If the oatmeal looks a little thick, pour in some additional milk to thin it out a bit.

Next, add the cinnamon and brown sugar. Stir to combine. Separate the oatmeal into two separate bowls, and set aside.

Place the powdered sugar into a small bowl and add the milk. Whisk to combine. Drizzle over the prepared oatmeal.

Serve the cinnamon oatmeal immediately. Add additional milk or fresh ground cinnamon as garnish.

 Cinnamon Oatmeal Tips:

  • Feel free to use quick oats to cut down on cooking times.
  • Are you watching your sugar intake? Substitute the brown sugar and icing with a sugar substitute or leave it out all together.
  • For a gluten-free option, substitute regular rolled oats for your favorite gluten-free variety.
  • Did we use too much or too little cinnamon for your tastes? Adjust the amount for your liking. This recipe is really versatile!
  • For a dairy free or vegan option, switch the milk for your favorite almond, soy, or coconut milk.

  1. So, I notice that all the comments say that the recipe looks delicious or yummy, but none comment on how it actually tastes.

I made the recipe above (which talks about using vanilla but doesn’t list the quantity) and I found it to be too sweet and did not taste very good. To the credit of the author this could be because of my cooking abilities, but the sugar-to-oats ratio is pretty high in this recipe.

Thanks for posting this for everyone – it does, indeed, look yummy, but to my palate it didn’t taste yummy.

    1. Good Morning Bet, it’s unfortunate that you didn’t find it enjoyable. With that being said, it is very sweet and meant to mimic at cinnamon roll. So, I can understand that not everyone would find it tasty. Additionally, I looked over the post and recipe card. I removed any mention of vanilla extract because there’s no vanilla in the oatmeal (it used to be in the original recipe but was later removed). I apologize for the mistake, that definitely caused you (and others) some confusion. We do hope you decide to try it again some time, with less sugar. Thank you for bringing this to our attention and we hope you have a lovely day 🙂

  2. This sounds absolutely amazing!! I just had my first cinnamon roll and this sounds like the healthier version. I’m going to have to make this for myself.
