Creamy Peanut Butter Fudge Recipe

This fudge recipe is a family favorite. My husband enjoys this candy throughout the year because of its delicious flavor and also because it’s simple to prepare.

Our peanut butter fudge uses 3 main ingredients with an optional fourth. The results are a creamy, smooth, simple, flavorful fudge worthy of any gift bag or quick dessert!

How to Make Microwave Peanut Butter Fudge:

Peanut butter fudge is incredibly simple to make! It only takes about 5 or so minutes to prep then the longest part is waiting for it to set.

  1. Line an 8×8-inch pan with parchment paper, and set aside.
  2. Place the peanut butter and butter in a large microwave-safe bowl. Heat at 20 to 30 seconds intervals, stirring between intervals, until the mixture is smooth.
  3. Stir in the vanilla then sifted powdered sugar. The mixture is very thick, so make sure to use a sturdy spoon.

  1. Press the mixture into the prepared pan and refrigerate for 2 to 3 hours or until set.
  2. Slice and serve!

How to Store:

Room Temperature: Store leftover fudge in an airtight container for up to 1 week. Separate the pieces with parchment paper to prevent them from sticking together.

Refrigerator: Fudge also keeps in the fridge for about 2 weeks.

Can you freeze peanut butter fudge?

Yes, you can! It will stay good for about 2 months.

It’s best to wrap individual pieces tightly with plastic wrap or aluminum foil before freezing then drop them into a plastic bag. When ready to enjoy, simply thaw out the fudge at room temperature.

What can you add to this fudge?

You can add an array of ingredients to peanut butter fudge to give it an extra burst of flavor. Try adding chopped nuts, dried fruits, chocolate chips, a swirl of marshmallow creme, sweetened coconut flakes, or top it with M&Ms, peanut butter cups, or salty peanuts.

You can also use other flavors such as sweetened cream cheese or caramel for a richer, more complex flavor.

Can you use crunchy peanut butter?

Yes, absolutely! It gives the fudge a bit of crunch and texture without the need for extra ingredients.

Additionally, salted butter may also be used in place of unsalted for a sweet and salty flavor. Or, sprinkle on some Maldon sea salt before adding the fudge to the fridge.

Why didn’t my fudge get hard?

This fudge isn’t going to set up the same way marshmallow-based fudge does. That kind of fudge cooks on the stovetop until it reaches a specific temperature allowing the sugars to crystalize and set.

Our peanut butter fudge is a softer set candy although not as soft set as some fudge recipes made with white chocolate and sweetened condensed milk. It’s somewhere in between.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract, optional
  • 4 cups powdered sugar, sifted

Instructions
 

  • Line an 8×8-inch baking dish with parchment paper then set aside.
  • Melt butter and peanut butter together in a microwave-safe bowl until smooth.

    1 cup unsalted butter
  • Stir in the vanilla then add the powdered sugar 1 cup at a time until well mixed.
    ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract
    4 cups powdered sugar
  • Transfer the fudge to the prepared pan, and use the back of a spoon or spatula to spread into an even layer. Refrigerate for 2 to 3 hours or until set.

    1. Good Morning Janise, I wouldn’t recommend using natural or organic peanut butter. Due to how easily those varieties separate (oil for peanuts), they might not mix very well. Thank you for asking and have a lovely day 🙂

  1. I do this all the time! We’re living in France, where there is no peanut butter in the stores. I add honey as the sweetener, and the whole family loves it!
