Warm and cheesy Parmesan mashed potatoes made with fresh garlic and nutty Parmesan cheese. It’s the perfect side to compliment any main dish.

Even though January is coming to a close, Winter is still in full effect. That means warm, comforting dishes will be on the menu for quite awhile.

Kim and I think our Parmesan mashed potatoes fit that description perfectly.

Nutty, melted Parmesan cheese blended with butter and potatoes. It doesn’t get much more comforting than that when it comes to fighting off the chill.

I can’t wait to walk you through one of my favorite side dishes. Let’s get started!

How to Make Parmesan Mashed Potatoes:

First, wash and dice your potatoes and boil them, with your garlic cloves, over medium-high heat for about 15-20 minutes or until they are fork tender.

Next, drain the potatoes and garlic and place them in a large mixing bowl.

Then, add the butter, milk, cheese, and salt and pepper to the potatoes and garlic.

Use a hand mixer or potato masher to mash the taters until they are smooth and creamy.

Last, add additional salt and pepper to taste if needed, then transfer the parmesan mashed potatoes to a serving dish and serve while hot.

Tips for Parmesan Mashed Potatoes:

  • If you like the fresh kick of raw garlic then don’t boil the cloves with the potatoes. Simply dice the cloves and add them just before you mash everything together.
  • If you need a low-fat mashed potatoes recipe then use skim milk and fat-free Parmesan cheese.
  • Peeling the potatoes is optional, I prefer to have potato skins in my mashed potatoes.
