Instructions
To Make the Lemon Simple Syrup
Add the water and sugar to a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir and cook for 2 to 3 minutes, until the sugar fully dissolves.
½ cup water,
½ cup granulated sugar
Remove the pan from the heat, then stir in the lemon juice.
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
Place the syrup in the fridge to chill while you prep the fruit.
To Make the Fruit Salad
Add all of the fruit to a large mixing bowl.
2 cups fresh strawberries,
2 cups fresh blackberries,
1 cup seedless grapes,
½ cup fresh blueberries,
3 mandarin oranges,
2 bananas
Pour the cooled syrup over the fruit. Gently toss until every piece is coated.
Serve right away, or chill until ready to serve.
Notes
Use fresh-squeezed lemon juice, not bottled. The acid keeps the fruit from turning brown.
Stir in the bananas and strawberries last so they don't get mushy.
Taste your fruit first. If it's very sweet, cut the sugar to ⅓ cup. If it's tart, add a little more.
Store leftovers covered in the fridge for up to 3 days. Don't freeze; the fruit turns mushy once thawed.
