While the pineapple drains, preheat the oven to 350°F and lightly grease a 9x9-inch dish or 2-quart casserole dish.
In a large bowl, whisk together the sugar and flour. Stir in the pineapple and cheese.
⅔ cup granulated sugar, ½ cup flour, 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
Transfer the mixture to the prepared casserole dish. In a small bowl, combine the buttery crackers and melted butter.

Add the cracker mixture and bake for 35-40 minutes. If the crackers start to brown too quickly, cover the dish with a foil tent.
Let the casserole cool for 5-10 minutes before serving.
