In a medium bowl, cream the butter until light and fluffy.
6 tablespoons unsalted butter
Sift in the powdered sugar and cocoa powder, and add in 2 tablespoons of milk and the vanilla extract.
2 ½ cups powdered sugar, 2 ½ tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder, 5 to 6 tablespoons milk, ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Continue to mix until the frosting is smooth and free of lumps. Add additional milk to reach the desired consistency.
Use to frost an 8x8-inch or 9x9-inch cake.
