Instructions
Pour the amount of water or milk called for in the recipe into a measuring cup or small bowl. Warm it to 110°F to 115°F. The liquid should feel warm but not hot.

Check the expiration date on the yeast, then add the amount called for in the recipe to the warm liquid.
Yeast
Add the sugar or honey and stir briefly to combine.
1 teaspoon granulated sugar
Let the mixture sit undisturbed for 5 to 10 minutes. The yeast is ready when the surface looks tan, bubbly, and foamy and smells similar to bread dough or beer.
Add the activated yeast mixture to the recipe and continue as directed.
Notes
If the mixture remains flat with little or no foam after 10 minutes, start over with fresh yeast.
Liquid that is too hot can kill the yeast.
