Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper, and place the slices of garlic toast onto the pan. Bake according to package directions then set aside.
14 ounces garlic flavored Texas toast
Heat a medium skillet over medium heat and cook the ground beef until browned. Drain away excess grease leaving 1 to 2 tablespoons in the skillet. Transfer the beef to a paper towel lined plate.
1 pound ground beef
To the skillet, add the onion and bell pepper. Cook for 4 to 5 minutes until the vegetables begin to soften slightly. Then add the minced garlic. Cook for an additional 30 seconds.
½ medium white onion, ¼ green bell pepper, 3 garlic cloves
Return the beef back to the skillet along with the tomato paste. Stir well to combine.
1 tablespoon tomato paste
Add the ketchup, water, brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine, and cook until the mixture thickens and reaches the desired consistency.
⅔ cup ketchup, ⅓ cup water, 2 teaspoons light brown sugar, 1 teaspoon yellow mustard, 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce, ½ teaspoon chili powder, ½ teaspoon salt, ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
Divide the sloppy joe mixture evenly over the slices of baked Texas toast. Sprinkle each with an ounce of shredded cheese. Place the pan back in the oven for 2 to 3 minutes, just long enough for the cheese to melt.
1 cup sharp cheddar cheese
Enjoy immediately! See post for tips, FAQs, and storage options.
