Malibu Bay Breeze Recipe
This Malibu Bay Breeze is one of those drinks I keep coming back to because it’s basically impossible to mess up. Coconut rum, pineapple juice, and cranberry juice. That’s it. It tastes like a vacation, even if you’re standing in your kitchen in Florida on a random Tuesday.
I started making this one at home because I got tired of ordering something “tropical” and ending up with a drink that’s either way too sweet or weirdly sour. This stays right in the middle.
It’s sweet from the pineapple, a little tart from the cranberry, and that coconut rum gives it the whole beachy vibe without needing syrups or fancy mixers.
What Does a Malibu Bay Breeze tastes like
Think fruit-forward and refreshing. Pineapple is the main flavor, cranberry keeps it from being cloying, and Malibu makes it smooth and tropical.
It’s the kind of drink that works for a quick happy hour, a weekend cookout, sharing with neighbors across the street, or one of those nights where you just want something cold in your hand while dinner’s cooking.

How to Make a Malibu Bay Breeze
Fill a highball glass with ice. Pour in the Malibu and pineapple juice, then give it a quick stir.
To get that classic layered look, pour the cranberry slowly at the end. It looks nice, but it’s optional. The drink tastes the same either way.

Malibu Bay Breeze vs Sea Breeze
This is where people get mixed up:
- Bay Breeze is typically cranberry and pineapple (with vodka or rum).
- Sea Breeze usually uses cranberry and grapefruit (often with vodka).
If you’re here for coconut rum and pineapple and cranberry, you’re in the right place.
Variations and Substitutions
Want it lighter? Add a small splash of soda water after the cranberry.
No Malibu? White rum works. It won’t be as coconut-forward, but it’s still a great drink.
Cranberry cocktail vs 100% cranberry juice: cranberry cocktail is sweeter; 100% cranberry juice is more tart. Either one is fine just adjust to taste.
