Festive Black Cat Martini
Some cocktails are a great fit for Halloween, and this one’s at the top of my list. My black cat drink is smooth, chocolatey, and has just enough kick from spiced rum to make it party-ready.
It looks fantastic in a chilled martini glass, making it a perfect match with other Halloween drinks, Halloween snack mix, and caramel popcorn. And honestly, it’s just as good if you’re mixing one up for yourself.
How to Make a Black Cat Martini
Fill a cocktail shaker or jar with ice. Pour in the Irish cream liqueur (Bailey’s), crème de cacao, and spiced rum. Shake it well until everything is chilled. Strain the mix into a martini glass, then garnish however you like.
I usually go with chocolate shavings or a rim dipped in black sanding sugar for a little extra Halloween flair. For these photos, I let the Halloween decor do the talking!
Quick Tips
- Chill your glass. Pop the martini glass in the fridge or freezer for a few minutes. It helps keep the drink cold longer.
- Add a garnish. Chocolate curls or even a drizzle of chocolate syrup inside the glass make it look festive.
- Make it sweeter. If you prefer a little more dessert-like flavor, add a splash of Kahlua or Tia Maria.
Can I use regular rum instead of black spiced rum?
Yes, another type of rum will work. It just won’t have the same depth of flavor, but it will still taste great. Vodka is another option if rum isn’t available.
Is this drink strong?
It’s smooth and easy to sip, but don’t let that fool you. Between the rum and liqueurs, it’s definitely got some strength. Feel free to adjust the amounts so it’s enjoyable and not too strong.
Can I make a batch for a party?
Absolutely. Just multiply the ingredients and shake in batches. Pour into chilled martini glasses right before serving.
How to Store Leftovers
This isn’t a drink I’d store in the fridge since it’s best fresh and cold.
If you need to prep ahead, mix the ingredients without ice and keep them chilled in a sealed container. Shake with ice and strain when you’re ready to serve.
