Add olive oil and crushed red pepper flakes to a hot pan. Cook for 30 seconds to 1 minute, then add the garlic. Cook for an additional 30 seconds.
Add crushed tomatoes, sugar, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine, and bring to a simmer. Cook for 20 to 30 minutes.
Toss the arrabiata sauce with 8 ounces of cooked spaghetti noodles.
Garnish with fresh basil and shaved Parmesan cheese. Serve immediately.
