Plates of beef stroganoff.

Beef stroganoff is a classic, comfort-food dish.

It’s perfect for an easy dinner in, for serving up at a dinner party, and is packed with salty, savory, delicious flavors and the best rich, creamy texture.

The one thing that can make beef stroganoff better is a delicious side dish! With that in mind, I’ve put together a list of all of my favorite side dishes to serve with stroganoff.

Pick one or a few to fill your meal out just the way you like it.

What is Beef Stroganoff Made Of?

Beef stroganoff is a classic recipe that features tender bites of beef and often mushroom simmered in a savory cream sauce.

It’s often served over cooked egg noodles but is also delicious served over mashed potatoes, rice, or spaetzle.

What Cut of Meat is Best for Beef Stroganoff?

The best cut of beef to use for beef stroganoff is anything tender, juicy, and well-marbled.

I usually use sirloin, boneless ribeye, or sirloin tips!

What is the Best Way to Thicken Beef Stroganoff?

There are a few things that help create a thick and creamy stroganoff sauce:

  • Sour cream. My recipe for old-fashioned beef stroganoff uses sour cream to create a thick and creamy sauce.
  • Simmering. The sauce simmers over low-medium heat which helps it thicken up before serving.

How Do You Add Sour Cream to Stroganoff Without Curdling?

Sour cream can split and/or curdle when it is heated too quickly.

To prevent that from happening, you can bring the sour cream to room temperature before adding it to the sauce.

Alternatively, you can add very small amounts of the warm sauce to the cold sour cream until it is warm enough to be added into the pan.

What is a Good Side Dish for Beef Stroganoff?

Whether you’re looking for something to serve as a side or something to serve as a base for the creamy sauce, there are so many delicious recipes that pair perfectly with your classic beef stroganoff.

Here are just a few favorites!
